Belleisle, Ayrshire has quickly become one of my favourite destinations for family photography. The incredible Belleisle Ayrshire is home to a botanic filled conservatory, rockeries, walled garden and vast woodlands; perfect for families to explore. Belleisle Ayrshire offers so much for families and even more so for incredible family photography opportunities.
I had the honour of meeting the McIntosh family nearly 12 months ago when their daughter Orlaith was only a few months old. She was a smiley little gem back then and she didn’t disappoint this time either.
Coral and Robbie had decided a candid family photography session was what they were looking for to document Orlaith’s upcoming 1st birthday rather than a cake smash or studio session. Originally the session had been planned to take place at Troon beach, however, because Scotland doesn’t understand the concept of summer, it was forecast for rain. Not wanting to travel too far from Ayr or Prestwick, Culzean’s glasshouses really weren’t an option. I then recalled being caught in the rain with my girls last winter and finding shelter at Belleisle’s botanic conservatory. Perfect location and more than ample opportunity to explore and change up the scenery if the rain subsided.
During the session we laughed and joked and found Orlaith’s ‘tickle button’. Everything was kept fun and simple and nothing heavily posed. None of my sessions are heavily posed. I may ask you to go and sit or stand somewhere, but that is generally the extent of my interference so to speak.
Just when I didn’t think this family session could get any better, Robbie went and collected Orlaith’s fury big brother from the car. Oscar the wonder dog! This very welcome addition meant that we threw on our jackets and went outside.
I can’t thank these incredible humans enough for honouring me with the opportunity to photograph their little family. I can only hope we get to do this every year; even when Orlaith is going through a goth phase and has vowed never to smile again.
“There aren’t enough stars on a scale to recommend Samantha highly enough! Samantha has photographed our daughter twice in her first year and the shots she captured both at Christmas and then as a family to mark her first birthday are beautiful and capture memories we have made perfectly meaning we really will treasure them forever.
At our recent outdoor family shoot, Samantha worked so hard to put us all at ease right from the beginning and was so flexible in the face of some pretty difficult Scottish weather… She made it the most fun and relaxed session I could’ve hoped for and her effortless humour and nature with kids meant she got the best giggles and smiles out of our daughter (and even a few from our dog!). I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Samantha to anyone. Thank you so much Samantha – we’ll see you for the next birthday! Xx”
